Coma makes stars look like fuzzy comets whose tails point radially from the center of the field. The faster the speed of your reach, the worse the effect. All parabolic mirrors used in Newtonian reflecting telescopes have limited field sharpness due to coma. Even a perfectly made 13" f/4.5 parabola has only a diffraction limited field of about 0.1 degrees. Previous attempts to correct coma have had limited usefulness. Some correctors were designed primarily for astrophotography, some required difficult installation on the focuser tube.Dedicated coma correction eyepieces were another approach.However, these were limited to 50 degree apparent fields and would orphan your existing eyepiece collection.
