TS-Optics Optics TSRED052 0.5x Focal Length Reducer with 2 Inch Filter Thread

The TS Optics 0.5x reducer cuts the focal length in half, doubling the field of view. This advantage can be used photographically and visually.

The exposure time is even reduced by a quarter due to the double light intensity!

The adaptation:

The reducer simply threads onto the 2" filter thread of the photo adapter or eyepiece. The reducer has the appropriate external thread.

Field of application of photography:

The 2" reducer simply screws onto the 2" filter thread of the photo adapter and thus cuts the focal length in half.

In this case, no image field correction occurs. The curvature of the field, the coma, etc. they are not corrected, the effect is even intensified by doubling the field. The reducer is therefore only suitable for applications at and near the optical axis, for example if the focal length of guide telescopes needs to be reduced considerably.

For which devices is the Red 0.5x 2" suitable:

The most important requirement is that the device accepts 2" accessories. Long focal length refractors, Schmidt-Cassegrains and Maksutov-Cassegrains are best suited.

With Newtonians, the coma would be greatly intensified, so using it at f/6 or faster here is not recommended. The reducer is suitable for camera sensors with a diameter of up to approx. 20 mm.

Scope of visual observation:

The 0.5x reducer can also be used here.

You can use all 1.25" eyepieces with full illumination. For adaptation, the reducer is screwed into the 2" filter thread of the reducer sleeve.

The reducer also makes sense with 2" eyepieces, but only up to a field stop diameter of approx. 40 mm. Eyepieces with a larger field stop would show shadows.

Useful optional accessories:

The TSVF2 increases the distance from the reducer to the chip and thus increases the reduction effect.
