The new 36mm EFW (Electronic Filter Wheel) was independently developed by ZWO for black and white astronomical cameras.
With the larger body and newly added screw holes on the covers, it offers a much easier and more consistent way to connect to ASI cameras.
There are 7 positions within the EFW and we recommend that you use the ZWO 36mm LRGB and SHO filter set with it.
The housing is machined from a CNC machined block of aerospace grade aluminum. It is of high quality and very thin with a thickness of only 20 mm. The heart of the EFW uses high quality stepper motors from NPM, Japan, which are known to be very reliable. When shooting, you can turn the EFW both clockwise and clockwise to select the filter. The whole operation process is very convenient and efficient.
Compared to the original 36mm EFW, the new EFW is slightly larger. The screw holes on the front and rear covers are intended not only to allow the 36mm EFW to attach directly to the camera and bring the filters closer to the camera sensor, but also to allow it to be paired with the M68-OAG. .
No need for multiple cables to power this filter wheel, a single USB cable will suffice. The current draw of this EFW is about 120mA at 5V, which can be operated via the cooled CMOS USB hub.
All ZWO 36mm filters can be perfectly compatible with this EFW. However, if you use third-party filters, make sure the filter thickness is greater than 1.8mm.
