TS Handy Tip - How do I balance the telescope?

To maximize the stability of the mount and also its accuracy, it is important to balance the telescope as well as possible. You do this as follows:

1. Slide the counterweight to a lower position on the counterweight axis, and then release both axes from the mount (right ascension and declination axis).

2. Place the telescope in a horizontal position. Then move the telescope in the direction of the focuser or in the direction of the main optic until the telescope is level.

3. Rotate the right ascension or clockwise axis so that the counterweight bar is horizontal. Now move the counterweight until the telescope and counterweight are balanced.

Now the telescope is balanced and you can start.

TS Handy Tip: How Many Counterweights:

We do not recommend placing the counterweight at the bottom of the counterweight bar. The unfavorable lever causes vibrations. If balance can only be achieved by moving the counterweight to the lower end, it is better to use a larger counterweight or a second counterweight. This allows you to move the counterweight to a better position. This reduces vibrations.
