Howie Glatter tuBlug - The insert for a comfortable fit.
The tuBlug is the answer for everyone who also adjusts their full tube Dobsonian directly from the main mirror, or who doesn't always want to remove the stray light protection from their truss tube Dobsonian.
The tuBlug is a variation of the Blug (Barlow collimation connection) with a 45° view out of the tube (tu = tunnel (via Barlow collimation connection).
tuBlug stands for "tunnel barlow collimation plug" - German: tunneled (through) barlow collimation connection. The Barlow lens mounts directly inside the "tuBlug" and is provided with an anti-reflective coating. The "tuBlug" is available in two sizes, in a 1.25" and 2" version.
What does "tuBlug" do?
As with a Cheshire eyepiece, the laser image of the concentric rings of the mirrors and the center mark of the main mirror can be easily recognized on the 45° wedge of the tuBlug during adjustment. Depending on the image, the secondary or primary mirror is immediately adjusted to the optical axis and corrected.
The tuBlug is an accessory for the Howie Glatter alignment laser and cannot be used without this laser.
Our expert comment:
One of the best and most ingenious inventions of recent years when it comes to adjusting Newtonian telescopes. In this way, not only can the centering of the secondary mirror be checked and adjusted quickly and easily. Focuser centering, which would otherwise be extremely complex, can be done extremely simply. It is not the cheapest of all the laser collimation variants, but by far the best and most recommended.
This is the new version ("NV") with thick thread. The accessory fits all Howie Glatter/Starlight Instruments laser collimators, which also have a new thread ("NV" in the item number). If you own an older version of the laser (before 2020), please contact us before placing your order.
