Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain SC 279/2800 CPC 1100 GoTo Telescope

Celestron's Schmidt-Cassegrain optics:

Despite the long focal length of the Schmidt-Cassegrain optics, the tube has a very short design, making the system a compact telescope characterized by extremely light transport characteristics. The light strikes an aspherically shaped Schmidt correction plate and is then thrown onto the spherical main mirror. This reflects it in a secondary mirror, which returns it to the primary mirror. The light beam now passes through the main mirror, which has a central hole. In this way, the light is launched to the focuser located at the rear end of the tube. This means that the system is closed and does not suffer from air turbulence that could harm the image. Of course, this also provides optimal protection against dust. The Schmidt plate is multi-coated, ensuring bright, low-reflection images.

Description

This optic offers a very good image, the contrast and sharpness are convincing and offer great fun, especially when observing the moon, planets or planetary nebulae. Overall, the Schmidt-Cassegrain system is a very good and robust all-round device for observation and photography. The sight at the lower end of the tube allows for easy orientation. The telescope can also be optimally used for occasional terrestrial observations (for example, at close range for bird watching). Celestron SC optics have an aperture ratio of f/10. An optional reducer can be used for astrophotography to make the optics "faster" and increase the field of view.

The main mirror focus ensures a very large focus area, making it possible to fit almost any accessory. Two preloaded ball bearings are used in the positioning mechanism to focus the main mirror to minimize "mirror drift" (a typical problem when using simple bearing shells). The use of high-quality materials, such as CNC-milled components from aluminium, cast steel and stainless steel, ensures high stability with little weight, so you don't need a very heavy mount, as may be necessary with other optical designs. .

The Celestron CPC Mount: The CPC-series Schmidt-Cassegrain optics are housed in a stable cast-aluminum fork mount. The optics cannot be changed. However, this disadvantage is compensated by the compact dimensions, the absence of heavy counterweights and the very good portability. However, the biggest advantage is the incredibly fast setup and adjustment. It's ready for observation in a few minutes, while others are still screwing and adjusting: simply set up the tripod at the desired extension height for seated or standing observation, level it with the built-in circular bubble, attach the yoke mount (se locks in the middle) with the three spring-loaded tripod screws store - and turn on.

SkyAlign: 16-channel GPS receiver transmits data received from the satellite for local time, date, and location coordinates to electronics. For the initialization, also called alignment, of the telescope, three bright objects in the sky must be approached one after another, it can be the moon, bright planets or bright stars. You don't have to know what those objects are. This is a great advantage, especially at the beginning of twilight!

After the third object, the telescope accurately calculates a model of its line of sight relative to the night sky. To do this, the electronics execute up to 120,000 comparison operations in a matter of seconds, as the angles between the three fixed objects are compared with the planetarium program stored in the on-board computer. This extremely simple initialization of the Goto control is called Celestron's SkyAlign.

After this alignment, more than 40,000 objects in the database are immediately available for access. However, up to 100 objects can also be stored in the controller, for example actual kites.

The control not only moves to the selected objects, but also makes recommendations for the current night and time. Information on numerous objects is also displayed via scrolling text on the hand control unit's display.

By the way: If the CPC telescope is configured in parallax with the optional polar wedge, another Celestron technology comes into play in addition to SkyAlign: thanks to All-Star Polar Alignment, no polar finder or free view of north Star is required to use the telescope to classify

The properties of the CPC mount at a glance:

Drive and mechanical base for quiet operation, with large gears and large quick couplers

Connections for AutoGuider and PC

self-centering to attach to tripod.

SkyAlign Technology – Simply select three bright objects in the sky and the telescope will tell you which ones.

Comfortable support for the hand control device: the information is visible on the screen, your hands are free to work with the optical accessories.

Database with more than 40,000 celestial objects.

The software of the manual control and the engine control unit can be updated via the Internet using Flash technology.

Oversized easy-to-find clutch knobs on both axles for manual operation.

All-metal, spring-loaded, quick-release scope mount with easy-to-use x-y adjustment.

The extremely large 25cm bearing tracking base ensures smooth and stable tracking with any size telescope.

Ergonomic construction: the telescope is very comfortable to carry from one place to another.

Permanent periodic error correction (PEC = Periodic Error Correction) with optional polar wedge for perfect astrophotos.

An important feature of CPC spotting scopes is the sturdy tripod with stainless steel tube legs and tripod spreader/accessory tray made of cast aluminum for rock solid support, with spring loaded mounting screws and center locking device for quick setup, height -adjustable for sitting or standing viewing posture.
